Unrivaled amongst most famous snowboarding towns, Val d’Isre sports 542 km of pistes. The winter season begins during mid November and closes in the beginning of May. The purpose built French village caters everything for you. The town extends through the vale from La Daille as far as Le Fornet with the focus and the apres ski in the centre Val Village. This cluster of inviting buildings contain chic boutiques many of which have appeared since the village was chosen for the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Split into 3 different parts the town has lots of slopes for all levels of skiers. With a great historical snow record, the area is hugely popular amidst advanced skiers and motorway skiing intermediates, but you don’t have to be especially adventurous to savor what is there. It’s easy to why so many English are attracted to the area for their ski holidays, with its famous nightlife and the range of amusement on offer, moreover the proximity of Tignes allows you to head out to quieter climes if it all gets too much.
Pros
A brilliant night-life in the French Alps. Everybody understands English. Easy access to Val d’Isre and Tignes known collectively as the Espace Killy ski area. There’s a lot of vehicles and whilst there are frequent buses during the day, committed apres skiers ought head to be within walking distance of the town.
Cons
Overpriced. Busy and popular with English tourists, thus not for people wanting a typical French resort to relish a relaxing trip. Numerous lifts can close in inclement conditions. Several difficult blue and green trails.
