Anyone who has ever been frustrated by parking lot traffic jams must take notice, by the end of next year this dream could be a reality. For only a mere $10K down payment a driver can reserve your personal Terrafugia Transition, a winging automobile which will reportedly be street legal. The company has been molding the innovation for the machine since 2006 and it is finally becoming a reality.
The airborne auto, or as it is referred to by the company, the road able aircraft delivers 30 miles per gallon in highway driving, possesses front wheel drive, and can hold 2 individuals. The cargo space has room for many items. The car can achieve regular highway speeds and is capable of fitting in a average garage or parking space when its wings are closed up. When ready to go airborne just engage the button in the cockpit and extend the wings. After that all that is required is a short one-third of a mile of straight road for takeoff. Legally you do have to fly and land at an airport so air traffic is observed. But hopefully this will change in the near future.
Offering a 400 mile range plus a cruising velocity of one hundred fifteen mph aloft, the Transition is ideal for the long family trip. According to Terrafugia this aircraft is ideal for jaunts anywhere from 1 hundred to 4 hundred miles. A driver only requires a drivers permit and a Light Sports Aircraft license to operate the Transition. This pilots permit only requires twenty hours of flying time and only 5 of those must be solo. Buyers can even get the flight permit through Terrafugia.
The Transitions safety features follow all federal motorcar safety standards imposed by the NHTSA. It includes crumple zones, airbags and other safety characteristics required to make the auto street legal. Supplementary safety features comply with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) ordinances.
The Terrafugial Transition is prepared to make its unveiling fall/winter 2011.
