Traveling in Poland Comments (0)

Travel Resources

Poland travel is probably not the first European vacation most people think of, but maybe it should be. Poland is very underrated when it comes to being a European travel destination. Poland has a lot to offer. For instance, the wild mountains in the south that offer great skiing and hiking. In the north is the wilderness of the Bialowieza National Park and the dense forests of the Maisurian Lake region. (If you are a history or movie buff, you know that the forests of Poland are where the Bielski brothers helped over 1500 Jews evade capture by Hitler’s Jew hunters.)

Poland has its city life, too. Warsaw, once the home of the famous ghetto where the Polish Jews were forced to live, is now a combination of Soviet and modern architecture. Krakow may have the country’s biggest attraction. Its capital building is a beautifully preserved piece of architecture that weathered battle after battle in the many wars that ravaged Poland over the years. Gdanks is best known for the center of the Solidarity movement that lead Poland out of communism and into democracy. Poland is the home of the astronomer Copernicus, Marie Curie, Frederick Chopin.

The high point of Poland travel has to be its natural beauty. Poland boasts the beaches of the Baltic coast, national parks with their otherworldy forests, bogs and sand dunes. The Krakow-Wielun Upland is full of limestone caves and medieval castles. But perhaps Poland’s most beautiful place is the area around the Carpathian Mountains in the far south. Travel Poland and you will never forget this adventure.

Snorkeling and Sand-dollar Hunting Comments (0)

Travel Resources

Our kids were really excited when they heard Ron explain our vacation plans at the dinner table. Ron said he had booked us for a week into a hotel in Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos and had arranged for day trips to see the other islands in the group like Middle Caicos, West Caicos and Grand Turk. May be, on our visit to Grace Bay beach, we would be able to see Jojo the friendly wild dolphin. Ever since they had seen photographs of a prime sand-dollar hunting spot near George Cay in the Turks and Caicos taken by a friend, they had been pestering us to go there.

Oh, they had lots of plans. They had heard stories from their friends about snorkeling in the islands, and they had seen the colorful shells and sand dollars their friends had collected. So they went on the net, searched several websites and came up with a list things that they wanted to do and the places they wanted to see, including of course, some of the prime sand-dollar hunting spots in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Not that I was not interested. I was as eager to explore the beauty of the marine world and swim among the colorful fish and the beautiful corals and sponges. Naturally, I intended to collect some sand dollars as souvenirs when we visit the prime sand-dollar hunting spot.

Once we were there, we signed up for some snorkeling lessons in the pool with the hotel’s dive operator. The kids seemed to have no problems learning to snorkel; they took to it like ducks to water, I must say. I was not as confident as they were, but we joined a group of snorkeling debutants for whom the dive operator had organized a trip to a prime sand-dollar hunting spot near Pine Cay.

In Part Due to the Global Recession Several Ski Operators Are Cutting down Their Number of Catered Chalets Comments (0)

Recreation& Travel Resources

Thanks to the recession skiing holiday sales dropped last winter.

Despite of strong pre season holiday bookings coupled with first class snow conditions.

This drop in vacationers follows on from five years of continuous growth in the ski industry, and the number of snowboarders decreased from 1.25. 1.3 million two winters ago to 900000 last year.

Partly due to skiers giving their annual snowboarding vacation a miss, and additional snowboarders who would generally have two or more ski holidays, merely took the one.

A fall of 15% was felt by the independent travel sector with a handful low priced airlines cutting the number of airplanes to several cities.

Tour operators also saw their numbers reducing by about the same amount.

However, the leading tour operators share of the market stayed at 72% and France retained its position as the most popular destination with nearly 40% of skiing holidays.

Because of this a lot of tour operators slashed the no. of luxury chalets they rent this winter.

Catered chalets in particular are going to see a reduction in skiers because a catered ski chalet costs more for the tour operator with regards to chefs and rent if it is not sold.

It remains unlikely that we shall find the last minute deals which were available this season.

Prices are probably going to to rise, prices are unlikely to increase much.

This season will undoubtedly pose serious problems for the ski industry that is impacted by the consequences of the credit crunch, fall in the value of the pound, increased fuel costs on top of high fixed running costs for snowboarding holiday companies.

What To Do If You Lose Your Passport Comments (0)

Travel Resources

The majority of people in England nowadays are passport holders, as foreign vacations have become ever cheaper over the last 30 years. But what is a passport for? So what happens when I hand over my passport book to Spanish officials?

Your passport document principally identifies you as a particular citizen of a certain nation. This at once tells local agencies (wherever you are) of your particular rights in their nation. Your passport is also the location to keep various stamps and visas which also tell local agencies as to how many days you’ve been in their country, and how long you’re permitted to stay for.

It’s a common misconception to think a passport entitles you to the same rights as the residents of the country you hold a passport for. Not true. For example, if you’re a Swedish resident (holding a US passport) and have resided in Sweden for 20 years, then go back to the United States on your American passport, you will almost certainly not have the same rights as a resident of the United States (e.g. claim particular benefits or get help with government grants). Residency and holding a passport for a particular country are two different things. It’s essential to note this as more and more individuals are dual passport holders these days.

You should always store your passport in a secure place, and make a copy of the page with your photo on it and your visa/stamped pages just in case your passport goes missing. If your passport does go missing overseas, contact your embassy who will be able to issue you a temporary passport. Your embassy is there to give you help with passport help when you need it, even passport renewal if you are a long-term immigrant in a foreign land.
