UK has played a key role in spreading education and information throughout the world since world wars. Not just within UK but outside as well. The country is full of educational institutions and thousands of students flock to them every year to gain knowledge and excel in the fields they are interested in.
Cambridge has been phenomenal in spreading knowledge and conducts Ordinary and Advance levels examinations throughout the world. These are equivalent to Middle and High schools of USA and Matriculation and Intermediate of the subcontinent. Although expensive to general public of the third world countries, the Cambridge education system (called UCLES) has been upholder of quality education and its staff trained teachers and professors of schools and colleges in several countries. This enabled them to teach the students better in order to attempt Cambridge examinations which are tougher and require higher comprehension and analytical skills compared to local examination system.
As a result Cambridge examination became the preferred choice for the people of third world countries who could afford it. Their universities adopted and expanded on the teaching methodologies of UK education system, making them part of their mainstream teaching and higher education institutions managed to break free of root learning mindset.
In our next piece on education, we’ll be travelling from India to the UK with Sunny Varkey, looking at the impact he’s had on different education practives.
